About District 5

The California State Old Time Fiddlers Association (CSOTFA) was incorporated on June 24, 1969. The CSOTFA is a 501.c.3 nonprofit organization and may accept tax-deductible donations.

The organization began as a local "jam" in the 1950s in Butte County California. In the early "jam" days, it was a general "country music" affair and encouraged all instruments including accordions and singing. When this informal group became incorporated the emphasis shifted to "Old Time Fiddle Music"

Over the years 12 Districts have organized throughout the state. In December 1992 the Articles of Incorporation were amended to emphasize the "fiddle" as the purpose of the Association.  There is also a focus on back-up Guitar and Maondolin Styling and all of the contests have picking divisions for non-fiddle players.

Today, District 5 meets at the Orangevale Grange Hall at 5807 Walnut Ave, Orangevale, CA, 95662.  (Click the following link for a map.)

The district meets on the 2nd Sunday of each month.  Each Sunday a board members meeting begins at 12:00 PM, (open to the public) at the last room of the classrooms at the neighboring church.  At 1:00 PM, a general assembly of musicians began playing on stage.  2:00 PM kicks off with Fiddle Kids: (Which is all young musicians who desire to play.)  At the end of Fiddle Kids, (around 2:30 - 3:00 PM) those still remaining on the "player order bulletin," will have the opportunity to finish their songs.  The music will continue up until 5:00 PM.
